Our Pro Drivers

BDRT is fortunate to work with the very best drivers in South African production Car Sprint and Endurance Racing. Our Pro Drivers narrowly missed out on the South African Endurance Series title in 2023 and this year the Team plan to go one step better and win the Championship.

MIKE MCLOUGHLIN

Mike’s journey started in Karting at a young age working closely with Mentor BDRT Principle Tony Martin. The collaboration lead to many Provincial and National Titles in South African Karting

Mike has been instrumental in developing the Cobra Rae car since the very inception of the BDRT.

Due to his high level of driving skill Mike has represented BDRT racing both in SA and overseas including USA circuits such as Homestead in Miami and Sebring.

With his driving partnership with Steve Clarke they both push the Cobra against the very best GT3 cars in the world.

TONY MARTIN

Tony started Racing in 1965 and won in most ever category in South African Motorsport. He raced Formula Vee and Formula Atlantic series winning both National Championships

“My Dad Ian was a huge influence on my racing career and with his knowledge and assistance we won many championships”.

Major career highlight was racing in and winning the 1984 Daytona 500 in the Kreepy Krauly Porsche with in an all South African Team.

Started Backdraft racing in 2005 and I enjoy Endurance Racing formula’s now as they prove the worth and reliability of our cars.

STEVE CLARK

Steve started racing motorcross from a young age before successfully moving into circuit racing.

Having won many events Steve started Racing with Backdraft in 2020 in the BDR series. Driving with Mike McLoughlin the pair finished Runner Up in the SAES 2023 Series.

BRIAN MARTIN

Started Racing in 1984 with Oval Track, going on to win Natal Championship twice. Brian raced 100 Stock Karts for 3 years and raced 125 Max Karts for 2 years. He then went on to join Rally racing with Trevor Graham and rallied in National series for 5 years.

Raced South African Touring Cars from inception to it’s demise after 5 years. As well as Racing Group N National Series and Raced Off Road Nationals in the same period, racing in Lesotho, Botswana and Swaziland; Brian raced a F1 Powerboat in the Lindenburgh era.

Brian moved over to Backdraft Racing 7 years ago and have raced all over the country with these powerful fun cars.
