The following statements reflect who we are and what we represent as a Race Team We at Backdraft Racing strive to provide a unique, cost effective platform for aspirant motorsport enthusiasts of all genders and races to compete on a level playing field.
To provide concise rules, consistent enforcement, sportsmanship and camaraderie to make our series the top formula of racing in the country.
Team History
Backdraft Racing Team BDRT was established in 2020 by Owner and Team Principle Tony Martin. Tony is arguably one of South Africa’s foremost endurance car racers having won the Daytona 24 Hour Race in 1984.
Due to his passion for Motorsports Tony has brought together at Backdraft Racing, a Team of skilled race experienced executives and engineers. This Team is committed to race prove his Backdraft Cobra’s in the toughest way possible through Endurance racing on the track. Endurance racing pushes both driver and machine to it’s limit and is therefore an ideal testing and development arena for the Cobra’s built by Backdraft.
Meet the Team
The BDRT has a dedicated workforce of highly skilled engineers and technicians all working under the Leadership of Brian Martin the Team Manager in a purpose built workshop.
The BDRT consists of Devsh Mohanlall, Luke Webb, Sandile Khumalo, Philani Dlamini, Keldon Singh, Nathan Muttendith, Lucky Sibaya and Elson Sithole

Tony Martin

Team Manager
Brian Martin
Started racing in 1986 with oval track racing, then going on to develop his skills through karting, rallying and touring cars at national level. Brian has been at the helm of the team for 3 years, “Its fantastic challenge to pull together my team to commit to the highest level of race preparation for our clients”
Commercial Manager
Marcus Stapleton
Marcus Stapleton has 25 years experience in the sports marketing industry. Having set up Sports Corporation in Asia for global media giant New Corporation. Marcus has worked at the very highest levels in the commercial Sports world working with Global brands such as Adidas, BNP, Nissan, FILA.
“Trying to understand clients goals and objectives and marry them with Sport has been a life long pursuit”.
